We recently celebrated the 4th anniversary of Kalasagara, USA on 22nd January, 2011 at the Pasadena Sivan temple. It was an event I was looking forward to for over 6 months. For quite sometime now I've been busy with other activities with little time left for my musical pursuit. This event was highly satisfying and much needed - 2 hours of musical bliss. This temple, though located near the freeway, is calm and aptly suited for classical arts, especially carnatic music. The trees inside the temple offer a breezy ambience. There are vigrahams (idols) of deities installed and the feeling of sitting in front of God and singing is something great - unlike singing in sabhas.
About 11 students participated and we had around 50 people attending. The programme began with my rendition of "sri vathapi" in sahana, adi .
Others performed as follows:
- Nivetha - Sri Gananatha - malahari-roopakam
- Shriya - Raravenu -bilahari - adi
- Disha,Dipti - varnam-abogi-adi
- Ramprashanth -kamala sulochana-ananda bhairavi-adi
- Priya- vanam-mohanam-adi
- Sasi -varnam-navaragamalika-adi
- Sahana-varnam-hamsadhwani-adi
- Nivedha -Shyamale meenakshi- sankarabaranam-adi
- Suhas -Sambashivayenave-kamas-adi
- Shreenithi-Varnam-Suddha danyasi-adi
- Skanda -varnam-vasantha-adi
This is perhaps the first time most of them sang varnams - in 2 speeds. We had the satisfaction of listening to each of them singing for 10 minutes at the least. Parents were thrilled, I could see several faces beaming with joy. At the end of the show we had a small musical quiz ,a very informative and interesting one. Sasi helped me with the scoring and prize distribution. We also had some yummy food for dinner, thanks to the lovely moms. It was nice to have Prasanna for the show. She has clicked some nice pictures - link here
